UNITED and me - Khadidja

Hello!

My name is Khadija and from the end of April to the beginning of September I was a volunteer in the association "You can". I had a dynamic role where I was able to learn the many functions required to run a successful NGO. I organized and promoted a river cleanup. I maintained professional relationships with city departments and networked with various agencies to engage local communities and young people in initiatives. I also partnered with a community center to participate as a volunteer in an international folklore festival. I have hosted a variety of learning experiences for children, teenagers and adults in formal education through non-formal methods. This included developing the language competences of high school children, training youth workers through social and emotional education workshops. I supported groups of volunteers, created information packs and provided general support. I researched and developed grant proposals and project reports, managing many of these projects and roles simultaneously. I also performed administrative and marketing duties, including managing social media accounts. It was an enriching experience where I was able to develop many of the skills I needed to be successful in my future career. I developed leadership, project writing and communication skills.

I currently work for a UK consultancy called Capita and the Environment Agency as an engagement specialist to engage communities that have been affected by flooding. The skills I gained as a volunteer helped immensely in this role. Experience within the European Solidarity Corps also made me a sought-after candidate. This experience helped me stand out as well as made me more confident.
